Vancive Medical Technologies To Introduce Comfortable, Conformable and Low Profile Stomacare Flanges in 2013

DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY – November 14, 2012 – Vancive Medical Technologies™, formerly Avery Dennison Medical Solutions, will  expand its Vancive™ Thin Absorbent Skin Adhesive platform into the  stomacare market in the first quarter of 2013 with a soft non-woven backed product that enhances the comfort, flexibility and profile of ostomy bag flanges. “The new product is designed to enable stomacare companies to offer dependable stoma flanges that increase the comfort and freedom of movement for the ostomate,” said Kevin Jones, Vancive Medical Technologies global market segment manager. “This product and future platform developments will lead to flanges that significantly increase patient confidence and comfort.”

Thin Absorbent Skin Adhesive

The Vancive Thin Absorbent Skin Adhesive (TASA) platform utilizes a  proprietary adhesive formulation that has adhesion properties and a moisture vapor transmission rate comparable to traditional acrylic adhesives, while delivering superior fluid handling capacities (FHC) that support extended wear time. The fluid handling characteristics prevent moisture build-up to minimize skin maceration, which can make skin more susceptible to damage.

In addition to having superior FHC, TASA is only 100 microns thin, providing a very low profile for a discrete flange design as well as being much more conformable to the skin surface around the applied area. This conformability increases comfort and can reduce the risk of leaking often associated with traditional stiffer hydrocolloid products. The unique combination of adhesion, FHC, comfort and conformability make products using TASA technology suitable for a broad range of applications that require long term wear or need to mould themselves to a patient’s skin. Applications that use TASA include wound dressings, backing material for electrodes, ostomy flanges and products for direct wound contact.

The TASA platform made its debut  at MEDICA in November 2011 with MED 5567A, a unique acrylic-coated polyurethane film on a polyester release liner. The product has been well-received, providing manufacturers of temporary adherent medical devices with improved performance over conventional acrylic adhesives and rubber-based hydrocolloid dressings. MED 5567A has been predominantly used in the wound care market. It is featured in the BeneHold™ Absorbent Wound Dressing portfolio, which is launching at MEDICA this year.

Stomacare

The new stomacare product will combine the Vancive Thin Absorbent Skin Adhesive technology with a soft nonwoven. The product offers ultra-conformability to the skin with absorbency and breathability to allow for long wear time while keeping the peristomal skin healthy.

“The platform’s versatility lets us innovate in product areas that will benefit from a low-profile, conformable adhesive technology that can be worn for an extended period of time,” Jones said. “This unique combination of properties means that future developments will continue to focus on increasing patient confidence and comfort, which we see as a critical differentiator in the healthcare market.”

Samples will be available for inspection by booth visitors and the press at MEDICA 2012, the World Forum for Medicine International Trade Fair (Hall 06, Stand H07).
